Winning the war – Part 9
Text: Ephesians 6:18
Prior to our text (particularly from Ephesians 6: 10 - 17) the Apostle Paul draws specific attention to the Christian warfare; these verses of Scriptures reveal who we are fighting against, they also highlight who equips us for battle, the weapons of our warfare and how to attain victory.
Verse 12 says the believer is fighting against the devil’s elite force (Principalities)
Verses 11 & 13 says followers of Christ must put on the whole armour of God which enables them to withstand the enemy.
Verses 14 – 17 highlights each piece of the armour namely: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit.
However after all had been said and done, Paul further wrote in verse 18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”
Invariably, the only way the whole armour of God can be put on or worn is by faith through prayer!
There are various forms of prayer such as:
Supplication – petition, request, a cry for help – Hebrews 5:7
Intercession – to stand in the gap on behalf of another – Isaiah 59:16
Travail – to birth, to produce, to bring forth – Galatians 4:19
Thanksgiving – gratitude, applause – Colossians 1:2-3, 12
A prayerful Christian is stronger than the mightiest warrior in an army but he/she must guard against pride, sin, worldliness amongst other things that hinder true worship.
The adversary is at war with the believer because of his commitment to Jesus Christ and for this reason the fight and struggle does not end.
Though courage and faith are important in this battle both can only be activated if and when we pray; our devotion opens up the portals of heaven for us! Therefore every believer must be committed to prayer as there can be no victory without it!
In the book of Hebrews 11:1 we read these words “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”.
The word used for faith here means, a foundation, assurance, title-deeds, in reality when we talk about faith in God if we really have it, it becomes all the proof we need, verse 3 tells us, “Through faith we understand…” this suggest that without faith we cannot understand the things and ways of God.
Here at Faith Dimensions Ministries we encourage our members to believe and walk by faith in our never failing God.
We believe in the ability of the word of God to save, heal and deliver through the power of the Holy Spirit and because we love our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ we cannot cease to praise His name.
