When The Two Worlds Collide

Text: Galatians 5:16-17 Date: Sunday 30th October 2022

We previously spoke Concerning verse 16 of this text, the Philips version says “Here is my advice, live your whole life in the Spirit and you will not satisfy the desires of your
lower nature”.

More and more Christians are moving away from the Spirit-filled, Spirit-led life and becoming more secular and worldly.

Today the greater emphasis is being placed on man, his well-being, self-
realisation and self-fulfilment.
This is all well and good, but believers we are first and foremost, sons of God,
who is, let me remind you, Spirit.

God is Spirit, the devil is spirit and man is spirit, who has a soul and lives in a
the house called a body, our fight is more spiritual than natural.
To survive and overcome the raging battle and bombardment of our day and
age, we have got to pay attention to our spirit man, we have got to feed him.

How do we do that? We must be a people who live by the “3-Ls”-we must
Learn the word, Live the word and Love the word.
Our struggle is between the flesh and the Spirit, this is intense warfare,
there is no such thing as having peaceful coexistence between the flesh and
the Spirit, they are at war, “…These are contrary the one to the other…”.

The flesh cannot be regulated or controlled by man, it is very strong, it
dominates the man, all it seeks is the gratification of the senses.
How then can the believer have victory over the flesh?
Verse 16 “This I say then, walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfil the lust of
the flesh”.

This is the answer, as strong as the flesh may be, it is not all-powerful, there
is a greater and mightier one, His name is Jesus Christ and He has given us
the Holy Spirit.

Pauls says “Walk in the Spirt…” which means to yield to Him, conduct your
life and behaviour in conjunction to His will and leading and you will have
victory over your flesh.

God bless,
