Aggressive Faith Pt.2
Text: Matthew 14:27-29
When Peter put his foot forward and stepped out of the boat, he did not recognise the person of Jesus, but he did recognise the voice of Jesus and this was what motivated him to take the initial step of faith out of the boat!
Can you believe what happened next? This impulsive and impetuous fisherman, who knew more than most about the perils of a stormy sea!
He knew about the need for a safe and strong boat if one is to survive the threatening sea’s, yet in spite of what is mind was telling him and in spite of what those on board the ship may have been telling him, he stepped out!
Amazingly; what was suppose to happen didn’t happen, instead of sinking beneath the waves, he found himself standing on that which was solid and started to walk on the surface of the water towards Jesus!
He could not see clearly, but he could hear clearly, he screamed; “Lord if it be thou bid me come unto thee on the water”!
I can imagine Jesus thinking, “Are you sure you want to do this Peter?” Ok then; Come! Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”!
Lord; I’m not sure if it is really you, but I kind of recognise your voice!
John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”!
Jesus; I want to be where you are and Lord, I want to do what you are doing! Verse 27 “But straightway Jesus spake unto them saying, be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid”!
Please note; they all heard the same words, but there was only one man on board that ship who exercised “Aggressive Faith” and as a result experienced what none of the others who were in the same situation experienced!
King James says “It is I” the Amplified Bible says “I AM”!
- God told Abraham “…I AM thy shield and thy exceeding great reward”! Genesis 15:1
- God told Moses to tell Israel “…I AM hath sent me unto you”! Exodus 3:14
If we want to do what Jesus did, we must be willing to step out on the water!
